Job Description

STC is a science and engineering research and services support company with proven expertise and experience spanning research, development, test, and evaluation in areas including aerospace engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, chemical and biological defense, military systems and technology, and software development.

Job Description:
The Sr. Software Engineer will work as part of a team at a government site supporting the continued development and maintenance of software applications and integration of diverse hardware and software technologies for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense systems. Work as part of a government scientific R&D team and apply versatile software development and computer networking skills to lab and field work in support of multiple projects to deliver advanced technology solutions. Field work can last a week or more at a time and include system testing and military technology demonstrations.

• Develop software applications in Java, Python, and other languages to improve, integrate, and network CBRN systems and technologies.
• Lead the development of applications for sensors and code necessary to integrate sensors with platforms to create operational systems.
• Develop Android and web applications and integrate these with other software and hardware according to customer requirements.
• Test applications and systems in the lab and field to demonstrate functionality and to collect customer feedback.
• Work as part of a close-knit team in an in-person and open-concept computer lab setting akin to pair programming to develop mission critical systems.
• Remain current on upcoming technologies and related subjects in the literature and news.
• Assist with the preparation and presentation of training and demonstrations.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Pay: From $100K - $135K per year based on experience and qualifications
• Schedule: Compressed Work Schedule, M-F, 9-hrs/day, every other Friday off
• 401K with up to 4% employer matching contribution
• 4 weeks (160 hrs/year) Paid Time Off, 11 Federal holidays, and Sick Leave

Job Requirements

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer/software engineering or a related discipline. Master’s degree is a plus.

Job Requirements:

• Must be a US Citizen eligible for a DoD security clearance
• 7 years of experience writing code, systems development, and testing (5 with MS degree)
• 2 years leading software development projects
• 5 years Java and Python coding experience
• 2 years of Android development and web (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, etc.) development experience
• 3 years of Linux/Unix and shell scripting experience
• Experience with agile, sprints, aggressive schedules, and Kanban
• Experience leading code reviews and managing merge requests
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Demonstrated ability to multitask and complete work within schedule

Bonus points if you have:

• CAD and mechanical modeling experience
• 2 years of coding experience with Kotlin, Rust, or C/C /C#
• Experience working with CBRN defense systems
• Experience working with or in the military
• Electronics, microcontroller/single-board computers (SBCs) /embedded systems and wireless radio device or software-defined radio expertise
• Active DoD Security clearance
